Dr. Sanjeev Gupta

EXPERIENCE

Sanjeev Gupta is Senior Fellow Emeritus at the Center for the Global Development and a Senior Fellow at the African Center for Economic Transformation. He was previously a Deputy Director at the Fiscal Affairs Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where he also worked in its African and European Departments. During 2013/2014, he was the acting Director of the Fiscal Affairs Department. Prior to joining the IMF, he was a fellow of the Kiel Institute of World Economics, Germany; Senior Faculty (equivalent to a full Professor) in the Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad; and Secretary (Economic Affairs) of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Mr. Gupta has been a member of various task forces and commissions (e.g., Lancet Health Commission and Education Commission).

Mr. Gupta has authored/coauthored over 300 papers on macroeconomic and fiscal issues covering advanced, emerging and low-income countries, many published in well-known academic journals and authored/coauthored/co-edited thirteen books; the most recent ones are “The Economics of Public Health Care Reform in Advanced and Emerging Economics,” “Energy Subsidy Reform: Lessons and Implications”, “Equitable and Sustainable Pensions: Challenges and Experience,” “Income Inequality and Fiscal Policy,” “Fiscal Politics” “Digital Revolutions in Public Finance”, all published by the IMF.
